Coordinate Reference System

Introduction

The Coordinate Reference System menu is where all aspects related to a project’s coordinate system are managed. It enables the selection and customisation of projections, geoid models and transformations.

Coordinate System

By default all new Zeno Mobile One projects start with the WGS 1984 coordinate system assigned. This coordinate system is a geographic coordinate system meaning the X and Y position from your GPS is output in degrees latitude and longitude.

Tapping the info button (i) next to the selected coordinate system displays all individual parameters of the coordinate system. The Reference Epoch section allows you to enter an epoch used for reference frame transformations.

Changing Coordinate System

To change the coordinate system of your project either tap on the name of the currently selected coordinate system or the arrow (>) to the right.

On the coordinate system menu tap the plus button and the Add Coordinate System(s) dialog is shown.

Tap Predefined systems to choose a coordinate system from the internal library of Zeno Mobile One.

Tap Browse to open your device's file browser, and select a TRFSET.dat file you want to import.

Predefined Systems

The predefined coordinate system menu is an internal library of coordinate systems installed with the Zeno Mobile One app.

The library is divided into two main sections, Geographic and Projected coordinate systems.

Geographic coordinate systems normally cover large areas and express positions as latitude and longitude. Zeno Mobile One displays these in degrees, minutes and seconds decimal.

Projected coordinate systems include among others, country specific coordinate systems and UTM zones and express positions as Easting and Northing in either meters or feet.

Navigate through the folders to find and select your desired coordinate system. Tap on the name of the coordinate system to select it. The coordinate system will be presented to you and give you the option to select a different geoid model or transformation.

When you are happy with your selection press the back arrow (<) at the top left of the screen and you will be returned to the Edit Project menu with your new coordinate system in use for the project.

Browse

Outside of the predefined coordinate systems, Zeno Mobile One can browse for and import TRFSET.dat coordinate system files. These files are useful if the coordinate system you want to sue is not present in the predefined coordinate systems.

To import a TRFSET.dat file it must be inside a ZIP. If the TRFSET.dat has a csc or gem file associated with it, these files must be located alongside the .dat file inside the ZIP otherwise it will fail to import.

After browsing for and selecting a ZIP including the TRFSET file, the coordinate system will be imported and the name of the new coordinate system shown in the coordinate system menu.

Select the new coordinate system and it will be presented to you and give you the option select a different geoid model or transformation if required.

When you are happy with your selection press the back arrow (<) at the top left of the screen and you will be returned to the Edit Project menu with your new coordinate system in use for the project.

Removing Coordinate Systems

Select one or more coordinate systems by long pressing on the coordinate system name.

Tap the Remove (trash) icon in the title bar.

At Remove Coord. System(s) tap Yes to remove, or No to cancel.

To remove a single coordinate system quickly

Swipe a coordinate system name from right to left.

Tap the Remove (trash) button that appears.

Confirm with Yes.

The coordinate system list is like a bookmark of coordinate systems. When you remove them you’re not actually deleting them, you’re just removing them from the pick list. you can always go back later and choose them again. (check what happens with trfs)
